Thiscontemporary figurative painting acrylic intitled “On a hot day in September” evokes the mildness of the days of autumn in Quebec.
Artist's interpretation
This canvas is inspired by a photo taken during a forest excursion in the Laurentians. The temperature there was exceptionally hot and sunny for the period and a young woman was lounging on the quay, her feet in the water. I found particularly interesting the movement of the waves and the reflections on the surface of the water.
The composition is dynamic and suggests movement on the one hand, but also tranquility. The colors are generally complementary between the blue of the water and the colors in the orange tones of the character.
To make this canvas, I used a technique inspired by a formcontemporaryfrompointillismwhich uses juxtaposed and superimposed rectangular keys arranged essentially in a random orientation. This technique being practically unclassifiable, I gave it the name of rectangulism.
Thisfigurative painting awas carried out at the'acrylicusing apainting knifewhich gives the finished canvas an interesting texture that supports the pattern of waves on the surface of the water.
