This character captivated me with the intensity of her gaze and the determination that emanates from it. She is a young woman heading to the market to sell her chickens.

This painting was created as part of a project in which I began exploring the fragmentation of colors, working with a palette knife. This approach allowed me to construct the image through juxtaposed strokes, letting the colors vibrate against each other and reinforcing the presence of the subject.

The colours, dominated by shades of green in the environment, harmonize with the reflections of light on the skin, where reds are particularly present, creating a vivid and expressive contrast.

This painting was acquired by the municipality of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu in 2021.

It also underwent restoration following a fire at the location where it was displayed. A video documenting this restoration is available below.
