LUC FORTIER CONTEMPORARY VISUAL ARTIST

Rooted in the current of contemporary figurative painting , my style as a painter in Montreal is freely inspired by, yet distinct from, pointillism . Instead of traditional dots, I construct my canvases (portraits, landscapes, and figures) with broad, rectangular strokes applied with a palette knife, layered like fragments of light.

This unique technique, which I call Rectangulism , gives rise to vibrant and dynamic compositions. Each precisely applied stroke plays on color, form, and texture. The relief created by painting with a palette knife reinforces the physical presence of the work, offering a unique visual and sensory experience at the heart of Quebec art.
