Artist's interpretation
The painting entitled "The Walls" is a thematic painting that relates different walls in the world. It highlights how these walls separate people and how they can be both beneficial and harmful.
I have always been fascinated by walls, their ability to separate, but also to protect us from the invader, and from the environment.
Typically, walls are used to separate populations. Among the most famous, there is the Chinese wall built more than 2000 years ago and whose length is 21.196 km, the Berlin wall, the wall of Palestine and of course the wall between Mexico and the United States.
These are of course only a few examples, but walls are constantly being built to counter or better control the unprecedented waves of migration of our time. This painting also addresses the invisible, but very present walls, political, social and religious beliefs. Fortunately, not all walls have a negative connotation, the Wailing Wall for example is a place where Jews from all over the world come to pray and meditate.
This thematic painting was done with a painting knife (spatula). The acrylic paint was combined with aggregates that give it a texture that supports the subject matter.
The painting also won the Gold Medal in the category "Figurative Border" at the 45th International Exhibition of CAPSQ at the Alexandre Dumas Media Library, Villers Cotterêts, France in 2017.
