Artist's interpretation

This painting is inspired by a photograph taken during a forest excursion in the Laurentians. The weather was exceptionally warm and sunny for that time of year, and a young woman was relaxing on the dock, her feet in the water. I found the movement of the waves and the reflections on the water's surface particularly interesting.

The composition is dynamic and suggests both movement and tranquility. The colors, for their part, are generally complementary, with the blue of the water and the orange tones of the figure.

To create this painting, I used a technique inspired by a contemporary form of pointillism , employing juxtaposed and superimposed rectangular strokes arranged primarily in a random orientation. Because this technique defies easy categorization, I named it Rectangulism.

This figurative painting was done in acrylic using a painting knife, which gives the finished canvas an interesting texture that reinforces the pattern of waves on the surface of the water.
