Interpretation of the artist
This figurative painting is inspired by a memory of a trip to Martinique. This painting evokes a woman lying in the morning darkness who is lulled by the sound of the waves and the gentle trade winds. The shutters let in a diffuse light that moves to the rhythm of the vegetation. Between two waters, his mind oscillates between wakefulness and sleep.
I chose a contemporary approach inspired by pointillism, which I call rectangularism, associated with the rectangular shape of the paint strokes. These are juxtaposed and superimposed in the most random orientation possible. This way of working brings a beautiful richness to the colors and especially a particular texture related to the use of the painting knife (spatula).
