This contemporary figurative painting entitled "Time Passing" exudes an atmosphere of tranquility.

Artist's interpretation

Inspired by a travel memory during a visit to Paris. The canvas taken from a personal photo evokes a scene that takes place during dinner time Place du Tertre in the Montmartre district in Paris. The two characters playing chess are in fact artists who settled a little away from the tourist activity pass the time waiting for the next customers. It is interesting to note the intensity and the concentration of the players imposed by the chronometer arranged near the chess set on a small makeshift table. From time to time the player in the blue shirt raises his head to check if customers approach their kiosks.

I chose this title not only because it describes the scene well but also because this painting was made during the pandemic, a period during which time suddenly seemed to stand still.
At the technical level, the canvas was made in acrylic with a knife according to a style inspired by pointillism. I used different types of gels which allowed me to develop a texture that reinforces the coherence between the subject and the material.
