Artist's interpretation
I was inspired as much by the attitude of this African boy as by the colors present. The boy's gaze and his body language evoke doubt or even skepticism in relation to the viewer, what could he be thinking? What is his universe?
I was drawn to the orange color of the sweater not only for its complementarity with the blue of the water, but for its subtle reflections on the boy's skin in the shadow areas. Direct sunlight creates those areas of deep shadows rich in color.
